Star Wars and Funko equals Epic!

Episode 12

Its taken a while but I'm hoping that now the photos I take for you are coming out much better.  Sorry about last time if you noticed I changed the photos of the Boba Fett blog, it was purely a funny outline on most of my photos that made me think twice and change all the photos.  I Just want to bring you the best work I can and once again thank all of you who have been enjoying my articles....Quick shout out to my good friend Ryan who's birthday it is today and to all those celebrating Mothers Day...... Now lets start!

Back in 1983 as a 7 year old, I remember going to the cinema on a Friday evening with my dad to watch a space film that had just been released. That film was Star Wars: Return of The Jedi!  The film can be bought by all good DVD and Blu-Ray Stockists and may even be on streaming sites like Netflix!

Apparently I saw Empire Strikes back on the big screen but this is the one I remember first!

The Plot (The main bit that's relevant to us!)

Luke Skywalker initiates a plan to rescue Han Solo from the crime lord Jabba the Hutt with the help of Princess Leia, Lando Calrissian, Chewbacca, C-3PO, and R2-D2. Leia infiltrates Jabba's palace on Tatooine disguised as a bounty hunter with Chewbacca as her prisoner. Lando is already there disguised as a guard. Leia releases Han from his carbonite prison, but she is captured and enslaved. Luke arrives soon afterward but after a tense standoff with Jabba, he is captured initiates a plan to rescue Han Solo from the crime lord Jabba the Hutt with the help of Princess Leia, Lando Calrissian, Chewbacca, C-3PO, and R2-D2. Leia infiltrates Jabba's palace on Tatooine disguised as a bounty hunter with Chewbacca as her prisoner. Lando is already there disguised as a guard. Leia releases Han from his carbonite prison, but she is captured and enslaved. Luke arrives soon afterwards but after a tense standoff with Jabba, he is captured.  The rest you will just have to watch the film, sorry!

Seems like only yesterday when I watched this!

James Uses his Ninja Talents!

Now a few months before December I had been chatting to my good friend, who we know by now as Ninja James.   It had come up in discussion about the face that Walmart in America quite often got exclusive Funko related items.  One of those items was the 3 Pack Return of the Jedi Jabba The Hut set!  James looked for me in Walmart on the day I asked but he couldn't find it there and so I gave up hopes of getting the set.   About a month later, and much to my surprise, there was James, sending me photos to show what he had found in his Walmart.... the set had finally arrived on the shelves!  Around a month later it was on the way...... via Croatia... don't ask.... to land at my doorstep about 2 weeks before Christmas!

Ninja James in action, his motto "No job too big or too small!"

Funkos First Offering

Funko first offered its fans a very different take on Jabba The Hutt and Slave Leia before it released its 3 pack.   The first releases were the standard Pop size Jabba The Hutt and Slave Leia but Salacious B. Crumb never got a Pop release!
There will be no bargain, young Jedi. I shall enjoy watching you die

Help me Obi Wan Kenobi your my only hope..... oops wrong film!

Whadda ya mean no Funko Pop release of just me!

Now I'm sure that these are treasured in many peoples collections, I myself have items I treasure but wait until you read on.

Funkos Jabba The Hutt, Slave Leia and Salacious B Crumb Set

Nice big well presented set!

Other Characters from the series!

This side has the Pop Logo and just Jabbas name...

And this side has Leia and Crumb

Peek-a-boo

First thoughts when I got this set was that this was a very heavy set.  It looked fantastic and had me thinking I need to review this for everyone out there to see why it is so

The characters look great on that throne!

Jabba The Hutt

Jabba is amazing, he is a lovely long Slug like creature.  The Bobblehead works brilliant as he is quite heavy and doesn't not get pushed about easily when using the bobble feature. His colour is of notice to me, the pack portrays him as Green but in the Return Of The Jedi I am sure he was more a sandy colour.  Sturdy and large figure, no doubting he is the best of the 3 Bobbleheads in the set!

Jabba The Hutt on his thrown!

lovely lengthy figure!

Nice Big head

Great detail of those wrinkles!
Extra Jabba Facts!

The original script to Star Wars: A New Hope describes Jabba as a "fat, slug-like creature with eyes on extended feelers and a huge ugly mouth".

Jabba the Hutt was played by actor Declan Mulholland in scenes cut from the 1977 release of Star Wars

That the actor character was filmed by a fully costumed which suggests that Lucas had changed his mind about Jabba being a slug - presumably for design constraints or budget reasons.

In Return of the Jedi, Jabba is portrayed by a one-ton puppet that took three months and half a million dollars to construct. While filming the movie, the puppet had its own makeup artist. The puppet required three puppeteers to operate, making it one of the largest ever used in a motion picture.

Jabba the Hutt's death in Return of the Jedi was suggested by script writer Lawrence Kasdan. The film's director,Richard Marquad suggested that Leia strangled him

Jabba also had a small cameo in The Phantom Menace where he fell asleep during the famous Pod Race.

People often remark on that laughing little critter who he kept by his side and known by the name of Salacious Crumb

Concept art for Jabba

Slave Leia

Leia infiltrates Jabba's palace on Tatooine disguised as a bounty hunter with Chewbacca as her prisoner. Leia releases Han from his carbonite prison, but she is captured and enslaved.
She is then forced to wear the bikini costume and sit on Jabbas thrown.

Leia enslaved!

Slave Leia is a beautiful rendition of Carrie Fishers character from the film.  The detailing on the bikini slave outfit is amazing and all the colours match the film exactly!  Picking out a few of the highlights from the detail are firstly her hair, secondly the earrings and obviously the outfit they are all brilliant and shows the designer went to great lengths to make the whole figure look stunning.  But here's something annoying, and as I stated at the start of my blogs I would be honest with you, the figure can not sit at Jabbas side without falling back, she is top heavy and unlike the regular funko release she does not have a base plate!  Still tho she looks great in the set and something like a small piece of blu-tac helps her sit nicely in place!

Great detail on the outfit and earings

Lovely detailing on the hair and Tiara

Blu-tac is the secret to sitting still!

Very nicely presented!

Salacious B. Crumb

Lets start with a bit of information about this little fella.   Salacious B. Crumb was a Kowakian monkey-lizard who worked in the court of the crime lord Jabba The Hutt during the Galactic Civil War.  He was a Jester of sorts, and had a unique deal with Jabba that would see him get as much food and drink as he wanted in return for amusing Jabba at least once a day, he lived like this for 12 years until the Barge he was on in Return Of The Jedi was destroyed by the rescuing of Han Solo.

The Funko figure of this guy is small.  He comes permanently attached to a small cushion which as part of his design keeps him nice and stable and allows his Bobble feature to work well, you could say the cushion doubles as a base plate.  His colours are true to the film and he has lovely detailing.  Nothing bad to be said about this character other than the fact you have to buy the 3 set to get him!

Awesome detail!

Cushion balances him brilliantly!

Look at that Mohawk!
Other Thoughts

Well like I mention about slave Leia, she could have done with a base plate to keep her balanced a little better.  The cardboard throne that comes with the pack would have been better made from plastic as I don't believe that out of the plastic cladding it will last very long due to the weight of the 3 figures sat on it.  Obviously if the throne was made of plastic they could have somehow designed a plate for Leia that plugged into the throne and would have sorted the balance issue.  I would have also like to have seen a carbonite Han Solo with the set that would have been cool! On the whole tho I would honestly say that if you like Funko Pops and also Star Wars then this set will be right up your alley!  It is nicely presented and the figures are wonderful!  Well worth the money!

Stunning Set!

Look Lego set too!

And last but not least here's your little treat!
